What is Platelet Rich Plasma?

Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) is a powerhouse of healing and growth factors that comes from your own blood. This concentrated blood product allows us to deliver a potent dose of healing right where you need it – in muscles, joints, tendons, and ligaments – to reduce pain and inflammation and to speed healing so you can get back to loving your life.

Is PRP safe?

PRP is safe and has been used since 1987, in spite of how futuristic it may sound. PRP has been used to treat a variety of conditions for many years, including cosmetic, periodontal and even conditions involving the eye such as a chronic dry eye.

With PRP injections there is no chance of cross-contamination, blood-borne disease, tissue rejection or allergic reaction since the plasma is harvested from your own blood just moments before it is used.

How is PRP used?

Our bodies regenerate themselves all the time. By careful injection using a concentration of your blood, Dr. Esparza MD can treat a variety of musculoskeletal conditions with your own natural growth factors.

Right before your procedure Dr. Esparza MD will draw a small amount of blood and spin it in a centrifuge to separate the red blood cells from the plasma. The plasma is further condensed to isolate the autologous platelets which are injected into the site of pain or injury.

Why use PRP?

Some advantages of PRP for painful joint, neck and back conditions include faster healing, tissue repair, and even the possibility of bone regeneration.

Your own platelet-rich plasma is full of healing, collagen-producing, anti-aging powers.

  • Enhance the body’s natural healing process
  • Reduce pain
  • Speed wound healing and tissue regeneration
  • Reduce infection
  • No chance of reaction or allergy to medication

Studies are underway to use PRP for knee arthritis, osteoarthritis in joints, bone regeneration, soft tissue wound healing and many other applications as well.

Since no procedure, not even PRP is right for everyone or for every condition, talk with Dr. Esparza MD to see if PRP is right for you.
